10 Days in Kenya: Safari Adventures in East Africa

East Africa offers one of the most rewarding family safari experiences in the world, blending exceptional wildlife encounters with cultural immersion, varied landscapes, and luxury camps designed to welcome guests of all ages. This 10-day itinerary through Kenya includes three distinct destinations: a comfortable city stay, a conservation-focused safari in Lewa, and a classic tented experience in the iconic Maasai Mara.

Begin your East African adventure in Nairobi, Kenya’s bustling capital city. Since most international flights arrive late in the day, we recommend an overnight stay at a stylish airport-adjacent hotel.

The next morning, hop aboard a light aircraft flight to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Kenya’s leading conservation success stories. Spanning 62,000 acres of rolling plains and forested hills, Lewa is home to rare species such as black rhino and Grevy’s zebra, as well as more than 440 bird species. It’s an ideal first stop, offering a gentle introduction to safari with rich biodiversity and a strong focus on sustainability.

Spend three nights at a classic tented safari camp with warm East African hospitality and a variety of amenities. Daily game drives are just the beginning—you'll also be able to take advantage of guided bush walks, horseback and camel rides, and even visits to nearby waterfalls and canopy walkways in the Ngare Ndare Forest. Many of these experiences can be adapted for younger travelers as well, making it easy for families to feel part of the adventure.

After three nights in Lewa, fly south to the legendary Maasai Mara, where you’ll stay in a boutique tented camp within a private conservancy bordering the National Reserve. Here, you'll find spacious canvas suites with en-suite bathrooms, comfortable furnishings, and that relaxed, off-the-grid charm that defines “safari chic.”

The Mara North Conservancy offers the best of both worlds: access to the famed Maasai Mara ecosystem as well as exclusive game-viewing areas with fewer vehicles and more freedom. Guests can enjoy night drives, guided bush walks, and off-road exploration, all experiences that aren’t allowed in the national parks. Wildlife here is spectacular—expect to see lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, and perhaps even the elusive serval or caracal.

On your final day, enjoy a farewell breakfast and morning game drive before flying back to Nairobi. Since most international flights depart in the evening, we include a private guide and driver for a flexible afternoon in the city. You might visit the Giraffe Centre, shop for handmade goods at Kobe Tough Beads, or relax over lunch at one of Nairobi’s top restaurants before your transfer to the international airport.
